We started filming very early last Wednesday and by 2 O’clock we were famished. “Where do you want to go for a bite?” I asked Derek, he looked at me like I was mad.
Why would we go anywhere else – we’re close enough to the office to go to Lamitte.!
I love working in the Haymarket, it is probably the most vibrant part of town. A combination of the old colonial and the frenetic energy of the East which emanates from China Town. Although these days the Thai community has pretty much claimed Campbell St as its own restaurant precinct and if you haven’t been there lately you seriously need to visit.
But nestled in there among the Thai restaurants is a little café that has become our executive dining room. I like the outside tables and the lively chit chat.
On theatre day it fills up with people attending the latest hit at the Capitol Theatre and the mostly western visitors vie with the local Asian community for space on the pavement and a table a Lamitte, my local café.
Since Ellie arrived a few months ago the food has improved considerably, which is all the more remarkable because it was already extremely good. Her sourcing of only the best products, her attention to detail and presentation and the quality of the cooking itself are destined to make Lamitte the landmark of Campbell St..
Word is getting out. The only problem will be getting a seat at all soon. Hence I hope this video will keep us in Ellie’s good books which may just prove to be the best move we made in 2009.
