With apartment living becoming more prevalent one of the things many people miss most is their garden. But now you can have a great garden not down the back but down the corridor. It’s called a Green Wall and it has a lot of advantages. The one I like is no more backaches, sunburn and splinters in fingers. The Green Wall can be as long or short as you like and there is a long list of the goodies you can grow such as Herbs and small vegetables e.g. o Rocket o Chervil o Basils – dozens of varieties e.g. § Sweet basil § Holy basil § Thai Basil o Vietnamese mint o Cherry Tomatoes, o Chilies o strawberries o Edible flowers such as § Nasturtions § Beet Leaves. It seems to me that it would be much easier to pop over to the wall than down the back garden (or worse, up to the supermarket) when you need an extra chili or some cherry tomatoes to add to your salad. And in the same vein, I have many memories of lovely plants that did not survive my long weekend away let alone annual holiday so when Damo pointed out that if you are going away for a few weeks all you need to do is top up the tank with water and a little plant food and set off for a guilt free trip. Now that’s my kind of garden. The Green Wall can be installed inside an apartment or house or on a balcony and if you need any more incentive, they look even better when they become overgrown except Damo calls it “When they grow out”. He says the wall looks great when the plants over grow each other and hang down. So, any one for Tennis? (On TV of course). Takeaway: Why not install a green wall next to your kitchen and look like a real professional who only uses your own freshly grown herbs and veggies without the torture of keeping your own garden.
